Food Rescue Supports Local Food Pantries

Every month I volunteer for Food Rescue, a local non-profit organization that rescues food from restaurants and helps support local food pantries.  Here you see a picture of our back seat packed floor to ceiling with bread and pastries from Panera Bread Thursday night, on our way to Third Phase food pantry in Noblesville.  

Food Rescue was started by John Williamson and has fed countless meals to those in need that would have otherwise been thrown away.  According to their website, 40% of food in America is thrown away.  Food Rescue is entirely volunteer based and is growing outside of Indiana.  Recently, Forgotten Harvest, in Detroit (the largest food recovery organization in America), consulted Food Rescue to begin a pilot program with a corporately owned franchise program for 3 Little Caesar's Pizza stores.  (Independent Little Caesar's franchises feed over 25,000 every month from the food surplus donated in Indiana.)  Food Rescue was called to Detroit to discuss expanding this to other corporate stores in the Midwest.  This is a huge success and is just another example of the ripple effect of Food Rescue here in Indiana.  Food Rescue has created a You Tube video to thank Little Caesar's and as of Friday, had almost 21,000 views.  Please watch this 53 second video and share with your friends.
